From 2000 to 2014 I was Managing Director of GAMMA Global, Manchester, an international, independent technology distributor, supplying Tier 1 enterprise products to dealers on a pan-euro, pan global basis - trading with 1,000 clients in 40 countries.

Key achievements include:

  • Growing the business from 23M to 57M turnover, and from 17 to 55 employees.
  • Leading two debt-based MBO’s, totalling 30M value.
  • Rebranding and repositioning the business as a quality player in the sector.
  • Re-engineering business and infrastructure to handle growth, including re-skilling and up-skilling of workforce.
  • Doubling profits, repaid all MBO debt
  • Achieving IIP (Investor In people) & ISO9001 accreditations.

I resigned from GAMMA in 2014 after 14 years to rest up a while!

But prior to that my experience includes:

6 years as Operations Director, Fujitsu Multi-Vendor Computing

  • Responsible for all operational aspects of the business, including KPI sets & business optimization to achieve set targets
  • Troubleshooter focused on poor performing business units, to quickly turn round loss-making business back to profit
  • Multi-Vendor product base, both direct & indirect channels-to-market  

4 years as  Business Operations Manager - Byte Direct & Byte Computer Superstores

  • Responsible for delivering vision & growth objectives for Retail & Direct Mail order business
  • Established Byte Direct Mail Order business, growing rapidly to 35M t/o.          

3 years as Sales Manager - The Knowledge Tree (P&P)

  • Remit to rapidly grow Mail order and Catalogue business.
  • Doubled business in 24 months (25M to 50M) by transforming product portfolio & securing strategic vendor deals & promotions
  • Doubled business with only 20% increase in sales headcount, changed entire sales environment, including people, reward mechanisms, KPI’s & sales review process, to increase productivity & margin performance

3 years as Business Manager - Volume Products Division, ICL

  • Responsible for delivering growth & profit targets across a ‘mixed bag’ of businesses – Multi-Vendor and Own label Direct sales, Asset Management, Computer Consumables and Mail Order business.
  • Built business from 40M to 100M t/o, and 100 people.
  • Established productivity measures and management, focused on productivity, full portfolio selling & margin target achievement, across diverse, multi-discipline business streams.

I won't bore you with the details of my earlier career, but suffice to say I got the sales and business development bug at an early stage!

Having started out as a trainee computer operator I soon moved across to sales within the IT world and found I loved the challenge of leading teams, motivating people and building businesses and achieving growth.

I love those challenges to this day and that's what Non-Executive Squared is all about – helping to build, grow and develop businesses and people.
